    Research Methodology

A five-step workflow for professionals using AI-assisted Australian tax and legal research.

Build a research file you can review

Cassandra provides AI research and drafting tools. Professionals should use the workflow below to check the facts, sources, reasoning and documents before relying on an output. Review needs depend on the matter, jurisdiction and intended use. The professional responsible for the work retains judgement over the final conclusion.

    01

Define the facts and research question

Identify the client facts, relevant dates, jurisdiction and decision you need to support. Separate confirmed information from assumptions and missing documents. For Australian tax work, record the relevant income year; for legal work, identify the applicable Commonwealth, state or territory framework.

    02

Select the engine and frame the task

Choose Australian Tax, Tax Strategy, Australian Legal or the relevant drafting or financial engine for the question. For international work, select the appropriate country engine. State the scope, facts and requested output clearly, and provide only documents you are authorised to use. Engine and tool access depends on your plan and current platform settings.

    03

    Verify primary sources and currency

Open the cited legislation, ATO material or judgment and confirm that it supports the proposition being made. Check the relevant version, effective date, jurisdiction and context. If a citation cannot be located or a source is ambiguous, resolve that gap before relying on the answer. A working link alone does not establish that a conclusion is correct.

    04

    Review reasoning, calculations and drafts

Have the responsible qualified professional assess how the sources apply to the facts. Check calculations independently, test assumptions and consider alternative interpretations. Review generated documents for parties, operative provisions, dates and execution requirements. Obtain additional specialist input where the issue falls outside the reviewer's expertise.

    05

Record the decision and raise errors

Keep the research question, material facts, source references, assumptions and final professional conclusion in your practice file. Record when the research was checked and any unresolved issues. If you identify a website error, contact Cassandra with the page URL and source details so the issue can be assessed under the corrections policy.

    Use AI with clear responsibilities

    • Read the Privacy Policy and Data Protection information before providing client documents.
    • Use information you have authority to provide and avoid including unnecessary personal or confidential material.
    • Check source currency for the relevant period and jurisdiction whenever a research result will inform a decision.
    • Record material assumptions and the scope of professional review alongside the final conclusion.
    • Consult the Terms of Service and professional services disclaimer for the conditions governing use.

    Research and professional review

Website articles provide general research material. They may not reflect every development relevant to a taxpayer, client or transaction. AI-generated research, calculations and drafts require independent review. Qualified professionals should determine whether further evidence, formal advice, an ATO ruling or a written legal opinion is needed for the matter.
